Julien Moulin - Freelance Art Director

My Humble Opinion On http://www.julienmoulin.com/

When I logged onto the website, I couldn't help but notice the GIANT ugly font expressing a quote made by Victor Hugo. The font used for "Victor Hugo" was different from the quote and did not work well together at all. Not to mention it was very hard to read considering there were strange pictures or designs coloring in the letters. On a good note, the menu was clear and readable. Navigating from one page to the other worked out swell.

The clicked on the tab "Work" and it took me to a page with vast array of clients or projects this fellow has completed. He had so many to chose from from many different types of media. I was quite impressed by this. If I were an employer looking to hire, I suppose I would let him know to only put your best works on the site because prehaps this looks to cluttered. But as a student taking a gander at this, I liked all the variety. As I continued on to the next tab on the homepage I came across the "About" tab. In my opinion, I would have put the "About" tab above the "Work" tab. This character should introduce himself first.

Once I entered the "About" page I learned that he has been in the business of design since 1992. He was a freelancer in France working on mainly print but lately started using other types of media to show his design skills. Probably a good idea. His biggest client he claims is "Volkswagen" and "L'oreal".

The following tab after the "About" was the "Contact" tab. All it had was his e-mail and a random collage of photographs. I didn't like it all, the pictures were all random and just looked placed there. If you're in design perhaps you should do something cool rather than copy & paste pictures.

For a freelance site, I do not think this one is very professional or effective looking. I found it plain and did not give a lot of contact information valuable to people. If you are going to go into Art Direction, design something outrageous. Especially if you are freelance and want people to notice you, do something they will remember. The homepage was not something memorable at all. Just copy with a weird fill-in. I realize I may have butchered this website into bits but really it was not anything special.
